Trainsleeper

After playing guitar and bass for various bands in Victoria, Greg Gillespie decided to pursue his own musical project being inspired by the idea of writing songs that would stand even if unheard by anyone else. This in turn influenced the craftting of his style inspired by the music of Neil Finn, Elliot Smith, and Aimee Mann. The reaction of people who shared the same sentiment for his music encouraged him to not let them remain unheard.
The Album:
After brewing a dozen songs during a year spent in Prague, he hunkered down to finish and record these understated songs about melancholy and hope in a fifth floor Vancouver apartment. Contributions by clarinetist and guitarist, Todd Hutzulak made this less a lonely experience. The decision to play as trainsleeper was made to further open the potential for different ensembles and combinations of musicians to interpret and deliver the songs beyond the limitations of the lone acoustic guitar player/singer/songwriter.
Bottom line:
Trainsleeper has turned years of musical meandering into a meditated mission. Though entering the path that many have entered before, one can’t help but suspect the road less travelled when listening for the first time. This artist stands out, stands apart, and is ready to be heard.
